Hello-

Back with the second part of my review of Debt Cures They Don’t Want You to Know About. You can read the first part of the review here.

Last time I left off on chapter six so we’ll start on chapter seven, but then chapter seven should have just been left out of the book entirely. It covers the basics of credit scoring and credit reporting. You can go to fool.com, bankrate.com, finance.yahoo.com or a host of many other sites and get this same information.

Chapter eight - What is in your credit report? It’s a good thing this chapter is only seven pages because it can be grouped in the same category as chapter seven. Do a search on your favorite search engine and get the same information.

This is a recurring theme throughout the book. But then not every book has original, ground breaking information - especially debt and finance books. Each author has their different ways of saying essentially the same thing. They may add their little tips or tricks and if you use just one of those tips then the book will have paid for itself in spades.

And when it comes to credit card debt and curing our debt problems, when the amounts of money involved can be quite substantial, using one of these tips can potentially save you thousands of dollars. The only question is are you willing to put in the work to get it done and make it happen? Are you going to make the calls to your credit card companies and ask them to lower your interest rate? Are you going to order your credit reports and credit scores and dispute the inaccurate data?
So no matter which financial book you read, if you do nothing and do not take action, you cannot call any book a scam. Even if it comes from Kevin Trudeau.

Getting off my soapbox now…

If you do not know the basics of credit scoring and credit reporting then you will find this book useful. It is all organized and explained in easy to understand terms. Kevin does offer several examples that you can follow along with.

If you do not know the difference between a hard and soft inquiry on your credit report then you will get more than enough out of this book to justify its cost.

Moving on to chapter nine and ten. These chapters continue on with getting copies of your credit reports and credit scores and getting rid of errors. Once you fix the errors in your credit report, your credit score will go up and you will save money on any loan you take out - home, auto, refinance, etc.

You can get your free credit report and free credit scores here. This is a free trial offer for credit monitoring. If you do not cancel, you will be charged a monthly fee. But this is the only way I know of to get your credit scores for free. You can get your credit reports for free at annualcreditreport.com. You have to pay extra if you want your credit scores from Annual Credit Report. You can get your free credit scores and credit reports free here.

He also recommends monitoring your credit report. This will protect you from identity thieves and make sure no new surprises appear on your credit report the next time you check it.

He has a site recommendation on his Debt Cures site but the link is currently not working.

Chapter 11 offers tips for improving your credit score overnight. One of his tips include boosting your credit score by using less of your available credit on each credit card. He recommends you only use 35% of your available credit on each card you have. Using more than this will lower your score.

One tip from chapter 11 offers a strategy to eliminate negative items on your credit report. This tip has about a 50% chance of succeeding when dealing with debt collectors and erasing negative items off your credit report. If this one tip works then you’ll have easily paid for the cost of Debt Cures several times over.

Chapter 12 is only six pages long but it contains the 2 magic words that several people have asked about. I have a feeling that you may be disappointed about what the 2 words are. But then again, if you know someone who has been affected by this then you’ll understand why Kevin hyped these two words up so much. There are few things that can ruin a credit report and credit score faster and wreck havoc on your life than these 2 words.

Kevin recommends checking your credit report and monitoring your credit to protect yourself from I_ _ _ _ _ _ _ T_ _ _ _. (Those are the 2 magic words that can help your credit) It is the fastest growing crime in America and affected 9.9 million Americans last year and cost them roughly $5 billion. Protect yourself from the fastest growing crime in America.

Chapter 13 covers cutting your mortgage loan payments down. Money saved is the same as money earned. Kevin offers tips on getting rid of your PMI, making biweekly payments and refinancing your variable rate mortgage for a fixed rate now that interest rates have gone up.

Rising interest rates is a recent topic so Kevin Trudeau including it in this book is a timely addition. He offers a few tips on dealing with lenders who do not want to be flexible with you.

If you need to refinance your variable loan to a fixed loan, do it and save money each month on your payments.

This post has gotten quite long so we will continue this in another post.

Free grant money from the government

Hello-

I’ve received several comments and requests about the free grant money from the government that Kevin Trudeau talks about in his Debt Cures infomercial.

Here are three sites to get you started and give you more information about getting government grants.

http://www.grants.gov/ - Grants.gov is a government-run portal for information on over 1,000 grant programs and access to approximately $400 billion in annual awards.

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt134.shtm - This is the FTC’s site on “free grant money” offers and potential scams. It offers tips on what to watch out for when looking for grant information.

http://usgovinfo.about.com/library/weekly/aa060400a.htm - This is About.com’s free guide to federal government grants.

Read these sites before you spend any money on grant guides.

Thanks,

Adam

A review of Debt Cures from Kevin Trudeau

Hello-

While I am still reading my copy of Debt Cures, I received another review that I would like to share with you courtesy of Bob Levy. Thanks Bob.

Bob’s review of Debt Cures:

“I just finished reading my copy of debt Cures. I must say that I was extremely skeptical about it but was pleasantly surprised and excited by what I read. Firstly, the book blows the lid off the “Statute of Limitations” law that I never heard about anywhere else before. Basically you can tell the banks that they can go jump off a bridge if they lent you the money more than 4 years ago. A couple of credit card companies plus a bank have been trying to get me to pay I debt that I incurred almost 8 years ago. I have been pushing them off for years but thought there wasn’t much more to do but stall. In California the statute of limitations is 4 years. In some States the wait is shorter and some it’s longer. Either way I’m ecstatic that I’m going to be able to wipe of more than $12,500 in debt. That’s pretty spectacular. I have researched this info on google since I read this and found that is to be true. Why did I have to wait for Kevin Trudeau of all people to tell me this? Why didn’t my government of Credit Counselor tell me this? This one tip alone is more than worth the price of the book. Kevin also explains exactly how to go about enforcing your rights under this law (complete with form letters etc) and the steps to follow.

The second surprise is that all of the “Free Money” sources and grant agencies he mentions in the show are real. I checked out about 15 web sites and a few of the phone numbers he gives and they’re all for real. I’ll follow up with my results in the coming weeks and months but for now I’m really very happy I bought the book.

I would be interested to hear the experiences of others who follow the steps in the book. It’s very easy to complain that this information is available elsewhere but that’s not the point. All the info on Google is available elsewhere but they are smart enough to put it together in one place that’s easy for everyone. Kevin did the same thing and no one should begrudge him for that!”

Bob Levy

Thank you again Bob for sharing your review of Debt Cures.

In my opinion, if this was Kevin Trudeau’s first book instead of his third book, it would be received in a more positive light instead of all of us thinking it just might be another scam. But since this is his third book we are much more skeptical about anything he publishes and judge him more harshly than we would most other authors.

I’m almost done with my next update and will post it here as soon as possible.

Thanks and have a great week,

Adam

Kevin Trudeau’s Debt Cures Book Review Part 1

Hello-

Here is part one of my review of Debt Cures.

Just got my copy of Kevin Trudeau’s Debt Cures Book. The book arrived in a similar box to what you receive when you order a book from Amazon. Amazon can ship books for free when you spend over $25 so why did this box cost $11.95 to ship?

I went back to the main debtcures.com website and looked in their FAQ, it no longer has that question listed there. It used to say that due to higher costs, blah, blah, blah.

So I started reading. I am currently on chapter 10, page 111. For the first three chapters of Debt Cures, Kevin Trudeau takes the approach that you know nothing about the lending, banking, and credit industry. If you don’t then these background chapter will probably get a little under your skin reading about some of their predatory practices and how they love to squeeze every penny out of us with ridiculous fees and high interest rates.

But anyone who watches the news and reads or does research about their credit will have already read this on most credit related websites. For free. So none of this stuff in my opinion was ‘ground breaking’ or ‘never before been revealed.’

Yes, the credit card companies advertise heavily to get our business. Yes, they try and squeeze as much profit out of us as possible. Yes, those late payment and over the limit fees suck!

So by reading those first three chapters, you can get a little riled up and want to take action to stop them from taking more of your money than they should. So tell me how to do that Kevin!

Chapter four is titled, “Eliminate Your Debt!”

Now we get on to the more meatier part of the book with some actionable content. In this chapter, Kevin talks about how there is a legal way of eliminating your debt. It’s called the statute of limitations on debt. This method can also be found on Google. But, he does offer some good tips on the whole debt elimination strategy. He walks you through the whole process of dealing with creditors and collectors who keep harassing you to pay your bills.

The information in chapter four is something that I would pay for. So Mr. Trudeau, you finally scored one positive point.

Chapters five and six are about negotiating your debt and asking your credit card companies to lower your interest rates. The more you save on interest, the less you have to pay and the quicker you get out of debt.

In the back of my mind, I keep thinking that a lot of this information is available for free online and it’s not original. It is very easy to read and understand in the down to earth manner that Kevin presents it. You have to do some searching for it online. So if you have the time available, you can do all the research for yourself online or you can get it from a book like Debt Cures or from one of Dave Ramsey’s or Suze Orman’s books.

In the next post I’ll continue with my review of Debt Cures and let you know my thoughts.

If you have any comments you can post them below. They are appreciated.

Thanks,

Adam
